Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle

Museum at Saint-Denis
  • The zoological garden created by the French East India Company accommodates the neoclassical Legislative Building, which became the Natural History Museum in 1855.

The zoological garden created by the French East India Company accommodates a rich collection of fauna past and present indigenous to the islands of the Indian Ocean, along with rocks and minerals. The permanent collection is complemented by temporary exhibitions. A visit not to be missed out on to find out all you need to know about the fauna typical of the region’s islands. The building itself is listed as a Historical Monument, and is well worth going out of your way to see. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed on 1 May..
