Payet Françoise

Françoise - a craftswoman in L'Entre-Deux, offers embroidered items and exploits the qualities of the ""choca"" - an oil plant belonging to the agavaceae family. Its rigid leaves generally end in a thorn and may grow up to 2.50 m in length. At maturity, a long flower spike emerges from the middle of the plant, extending to 4 to 7 metres in length, from which a very large number of small aerial bulbs are released and propagate in a most invasive manner, to the detriment of the island's endemic and indigenous species. This plant is used to manufacture: earrings, necklaces, keyrings, bags, letter holders and the ever-popular ""Savates Choca"" shoes.
