The Grand Raid 2018

The Grand Raid de La Réunion will take place on the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st October 2018. For this 26th edition, 6,190 participants are expected from all over the world, for all four races. The most experienced sportsmen and women will cross the superb landscapes of the island (Cilaos, Mafate, Salazie…) as they take on the 165 km of the Diagonale des fous, the iconic race of the event.

Four races in the mountains of the ultimate island

This major sports event for the island has become an international reference in the world of ultra-marathons. This year, trail-runners taking on the four races can expect a real rush of adrenaline:

The 26th edition of the Diagonale des fous – Departing from Saint-Pierre Ravine Blanche on the 18th October at 10pm and arriving in Saint-Denis La Redoute – crossing the island from south to north, covering 165 km and 9,576m of uphill climbs.
The Trail de Bourbon – Departing from Cilaos on the 19th October at 9pm and arriving in Saint-Denis La Redoute, covering 111 km and 6,433m of uphill climbs.
The Mascareignes – Departing from Grand Ilet Salazie on the 19th October at 3am and arriving in Saint-Denis La Redoute.
The Zembrocal is a relay race with 3 participants who run 55 km, 64 km and 65 km. Departing from the Domaine Vidot Montvert les Hauts on the 18th October at 6pm and arriving at the Aire du Nez de Bœuf car park. Second departure from the Aire du Nez de Boeuf car park, arriving in Grand Ilet. Third departure from Grand Ilet and arriving in Saint-Denis La Redoute.

They will have travelled across the globe to push themselves to the ultimate limits, from France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Andorra, Germany, England, Ireland, Argentina, Scotland, Japan, Hong-Kong, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Canada, the United States, Sweden, Morocco, Iceland, Slovenia, Norway, Russia, Romania, Croatia, Israel, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Martinique, Guadeloupe, New Caledonia, Guyana, French Polynesia, South Africa, Mauritius, Madagascar, India and Mayotte.

The race of international champions

Among the sportsmen and women, some international ultra-marathon champions have taken on this challenge. Among them, François D’Haene, Antoine Guillon, Andrea Huser, Emilie Lecomte, Javier Dominguez, Maxime Cazajous, Sylvain and Sébastien Camus, to name but a few, have crossed the island on the prestigious Grand Raid trails.
