At maturity, a long flower spike emerges from the middle of the plant, extending to 4 to 7 metres in length, from which a very large number of small aerial bulbs are released and propagate in a most invasive manner, to the detriment of the island's endemic and indigenous species. This plant is used to manufacture: earrings, necklaces, keyrings, bags, letter holders and the ever-popular ""Savates Choca"" shoes.
