  • Savanna Distillery, an offshoot of the Bois-Rouge factory, one of two sugar factories on Reunion, reveals the secrets of rum making.
    The presentation about the agricultural world of sugar cane in Reunion teaches visitors about the importance of this industry in terms of the island's economy, history and culture.
    The sugar distillery visit takes visitors deep into the fantastic world which presides over the magical metamorphosis from plant to sugar. The rum distillery introduces visitors to the meticulous process of creating fine rums, the fermentation processes and the mysteries of ageing in the Savanna Distillery cellars. Round off the visit with tasting sessions in the Tafia & Galabé shop: enjoy the flavours of Reunion Island.

    Experiencing the surprising area of a real industrial spacecraft dedicated to the amazing Cane Odyssey. The presentation of the agricultural world of the cane increases visitors awareness about the importance of this field in the economy, in the history and culture of the island.
    The visit of the sugar refinery takes visitors into the deepest fanstasy world which governs the magical transformation of the plants into sugar. The discovery of the rum distillery introduces visitors to the preparation of the great rums, fermentation processes and the mysteries of ageing in the cellars of Savanna Distillery. Finally the tasting at Tafia & Galabé shop : the charm of Réunion flavors.
    Depending on the time of year, visits are organised in several stages :
    In the sugar season (July to December): guided visits to the Bois Rouge sugar refinery and the Distillerie de Savanna, with tasting session in the shop to round off the visit. Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    Outside the sugar season (January to the end of June): guided visits to the Distillerie de Savanna and tasting session at the shop. Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    Duration : 2h during the sugar season and 1h30 outside the season. Open all year round except Sundays and public holidays. For school group, group and children’s rates, please enquire. Precautions and recommendations: visit inadvisable for people subject to vertigo or serious asthma attacks. Trousers or shorts and flat-heeled shoes should be worn.
    Children of 7 and over accepted.
