    Renovated by the Reunion Region from 2010 to 2014, the La Cité du Volcan museum opened its doors to the public on 5th August 2014. This leading tourist attraction centre is also an international educational and scientific centre.
    This 6,000m² infrastructure includes an innovative museum including several structures and interactive models for a fun, attractive and educational visit: 270° auditorium, 4D movie theater, multisensory tunnel, sound effects, etc.

  • This immersive exhibition is achieved through the use of numerous innovative and interactive devices such as holographic projection, augmented reality, large-format multitouch surfaces, sound and visual environments and more.
    All these technological processes immerse visitors in conditions reproducing certain characteristics of volcanoes, allowing them to experience the sensations and fully experience the purpose of this exhibition.

    -Floor 1: lava tunnel, hall, panoramic film, etc.
    -Floor 2: the treasure room (the lithotheque), the Piton de la Fournaise at the heart of myths and the volcanic observatory, etc.
    -Floor 3: documentation centre, auditorium

    Practical information:
    The 4D cinema can be booked directly with the Cité du Volcan.
    Ticket office closes at 16:15
    Museum open from 09:30 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, Monday from 13:00 to 17:00, tours with or without prior booking.
    Visit length: approximately 2 hours
    Please note:
    -Closed on 1 January, 1 May, 1 November and 25 December
    -Closed at 13:30 on 24 and 31 December
