Route Hubert Delisle is named after the first governor of Reunion Island who ordered its construction in 1855 to connect the highlands and develop the area. It is a fabulous adventure into the rural highlands of the island.
Also known as the “balcony” route, the RD3 takes you from the coast to the top of the mountains.
Getting there: The Hubert Delisle “somin gouvernman” road was a formidable challenge for its period. In the western highlands, from Bois-de-Nèfles Saint-Paul to Les Avirons, the road crosses 35 ravines at an altitude of 800 metres for about 35 km. It is peaceful alternative in the highlands to the Route des Tamarins. Start in Le Guillaume and follow it up to Trois-Bassins, Les Colimaçons or Le Tévelave.
