Reunion Island is part of Europe, and is a safe island. However you do need to apply common sense: avoid walking out alone at night, in isolated areas, do not show that you have large sums of money or valuable objects. Do not bathe unless there is a lifeguard. During any water activities, we advise you to comply with all current safety regulations (prevention of shark risks). And you too can do your bit to protect Reunion Island.
