The 19th Rendez-Vous Natures festival is all about biodiversity for all and will take place from 14 to 29 October 2023.
The local council of Reunion Island and its partners who manage the sensitive natural areas have joined forces to promote these outstanding nature spots and the remarkable biodiversity of the ultimate island.
The programme includes hiking, observing nature, exploring and learning through guided tours and activities organised in the facilities run by the Reunion Island local council.
Seasoned hikers and budding explorers can soak up the atmosphere of the forest, the wetlands or the volcanic lava sites, to discover Reunion’s wealth of endemic and indigenous fauna and flora, and the remarkable landscape in all its beauty.
This year’s event comes with a few new features: six natural sites to be visited in augmented reality with the help of digital tablets and 3D videos in the Carrefour and Leclerc shopping malls. The aim is to spread awareness among the general public, especially for the benefit of those who cannot visit the sites, some of which are difficult to access, through images shot respectfully vis-à-vis the site itself and the environment.
Two topics will be covered: why the forest is threatened and what we can do to preserve biodiversity, and aromatic plants and medicinal herbs.
