The restaurant? Le Mazéniène, an authentic Creole hut that has been lovingly restored. Right in the heart of Saint-Pierre, in the south of Réunion, you’ll recognise it by the mosaic on the floor that leads you to the entrance… and right to the chef! Today, it’s Fabien Rocheville who welcomes you with a smile for a cookery class featuring the island’s flavours. His trademark? Creativity, plenty of warmth and an unbridled love of local produce.
What strikes you upon entering Le Mazéniène restaurant is the harmonious blend of modern elegance and Creole authenticity, the very roots of Chef Fabien. “Here, everything has been designed to preserve the soul of the place, its character, and its old-world charm,” explains the host, adjusting his cap. A signature that reveals a second one the moment he steps into the kitchen!
In a friendly atmosphere, Fabien serves you a cocktail and explains his philosophy behind the stove. On the menu: commitment, always and forever, but also short supply chains, seasonality, and an uncompromising stance on the quality of his ingredients and their provenance. 100% local! In short, creative cuisine deeply rooted in Réunionese culture.

Listen, observe, taste: you’re in the real thing.
This immersive experience puts the rest of the dining experience into perspective: at Le Mazéniène restaurant, the cuisine is approached with purpose, care and passion.

Aprons on? Knives sharpened? Yes, chef! You’re all set to get started. Back under the veranda, your Réunionese cookery class begins under Fabien’s watchful eye. Chopping vegetables, cooking, making rougails, pounding chillies, washing rice, making a potato cake, preparing the curry…
The workshop progresses and you gain confidence, thanks to the chef’s valuable advice and tasty anecdotes. Between a local onion, some ginger and two grilled aubergines, the full richness of Réunionese cuisine comes to life.
Flavoured rum and a communal meal: enjoy your meal!
