Magical moment at the Piton de Grande-Anse
After an intense morning, it’s time to stop off for a bite to eat! We stop by one of the small restaurants in Saint-Philippe where we quickly get to know the regulars and then taste the local specialities.

Then we decide to head to the famous Grande Anse beach with its soft grassy areas and majestic coconut trees. We follow the advice of one of the locals and set off on the climb up to the Piton de Grande-Anse. We admire a number of different species of birds before catching a glimpse, a few hundred metres from the coastline, of the spray of a powerful humpback whaleemerging above the surface of the water… The day comes to a close and the sun starts to go down, casting an orange tinge onto the Indian Ocean. We feel an overwhelming sense of freedom.
An overnight stay with an ocean view
As the sky turns red and the first stars come out, head to the Palm Hotel & Spa*****, a 5-star establishment with a 3.5-hectare tropical garden overlooking Grande Anse beach. Tomorrow, we will definitely treat ourselves to a revitalising spa treatment. We head to Makassar, the hotel restaurant for our evening meal and it is also one of the most well-known on Reunion Island. The traditional local products of the island are used to concoct some original dishes. It’s a treat for the taste buds. Spending a night in a lodge surrounded by lush vegetation and lulled by the gentle lapping of the waves, to be awoken in the morning by the singing of the birds, makes this an unforgettable experience.
