Théâtre Les Bambous
in Saint-Benoît
-
LES BAMBOUS is an officially-recognised “art & creation” theatre of national interest. Its purpose is first and foremost to expose the audience not to what they already like, but to something new that they might enjoy.
Recently renovated, LES BAMBOUS has retained all its original charm, almost unchanged but with a refreshed look, with stage-set workshops and storage space closer to the stage, and offices now inside the theatre building where the creativeness happens. Only the walls have changed. -

Every year, the programme is a rich and varied concoction of fundamentally contemporary performances, yet it remains true to its tradition of revealing writers and maintaining a special relationship with the island’s Benedictine audience. At Les Bambous, the seasonal programme encourages creation without neglecting the existing repertoire, and pursues its transverse cultural activities of training, educating school groups, and promoting the theatre at regional, national and even international level.
LES BAMBOUS adheres closely to its remit with a programme of:
*3 to 4 yearly creations in a series of 7 to 9 performances scheduled at different times to allow the broadest possible audience to attend and at very reasonable prices,
* Hosting of troupes and writers,
* Short-term billings but there are also drama workshops and awareness activities,
* An opportunity for amateur performers and theatre fans,
* The children’s festival: “Il était une fois... les vacances! Les voyages de ceux qui restent”, in July,
* “Ca s’appelle reviens!”, a medley of sketches with drama, music, circus, dance and cinema, for three weeks during the southern winter holidays.
* Les Bambous Libres, mood music and songs.
In light of the disruption to our everyday lives, Les Bambous has decided, for the two coming seasons (2021 & 2022), to host a whole swarm of artists who will aim to disperse themselves between the various venues for a different kind of encounter, to take the audience somewhere, elsewhere, add a little cheer and encourage them to embrace the world after.
