Compulsory documents for French citizens or citizens of the European Union:
- Valid identity card or passport
- For people coming from any country other than France: valid passport, visa if necessary and a return ticket or ticket for an ongoing journey from the island. In accordance with legislation in force.
Travelling with children:
If you are travelling with underage children, they should have their own individual passport, whatever their age.
According to French legislation, any underage children travelling with their two parents, or one parent, do not need to carry authorisation for leaving their home territory. However, this document will be requested (from the 15th January 2017) if the child is not travelling with at least one parent. In this last case, the child must provide: passport (or identity card, according to the requirements from the destination); the authorisation form to leave the territory, signed by one of their parents who is a legal guardian (the authorisation form to leave French territory is available on the website www.service-public.fr); a photocopy of the signatory parent or guardian’s identity card or passport.
When an underage child is travelling with one of their parents who have a different surname, you are advised to be able to either prove your relationship, or present the authorisation form to leave the territory (Cerfa form n° 15646*01 for France) duly signed and filled out by the other parent, with a copy of their proof of identity. This authorisation does not mean you are exempt from any other formality required by the destination for underage children.
