Formerly Jardin du Roy, it served as zoological garden at its foundation inn 1773 by the East India Company. Le Jardin de l'Etat has a Natural History Museum inaugurated in1855, it was listed as a Historical Monument in 1978. The visit is an opportunity to discover the many exotic trees : the talipot (ancient tree that blooms only once before dying), the baobab, the traveler's palm...The site has a stage area created on a former entrance of the garden area dedicated to entertainment : concerts, storytelling...
An area dedicated to exhibtions and art has been created on the old turtle park.
A playground is set over 500 m², it has water games whose jets are equipped with lights : vertical and curved jets, trickle of water flowing from the walls..
Guided tours are offered from Mondays to Fridays morning from 9:3 a.m.to 10:45 a.m and from 11h a.m.to 12h, on the afternoon from 1h p.m to 2:3 p.m, from 2:45 p.m to 4:15 p.m and from 4:3 p.m to 5:3 p.m.
Le Jardin de l'Etat is open from the 1st november to 31 march from 6h a.m to 7h p.m and from the 1st april to 31 october from 6h a.m to 6h a.m
