A treat for the eyes and the taste buds
In Saint-Leu, on the south-west coast of the island, I enjoyed the tranquillity of a tasteful and understated hotel: Blue Margouillat Seaview hotel and its panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.
After another fun packed day on Reunion Island, we arrived in Saint-Leu. We were expected at Blue Margouillat, a charming 5 star hotel where we are going to enjoy some of the most special moments of our holiday.
Built above the town, the hotel, recently affiliated in prestigious family of “Relais & Châteaux”, has breathtaking panoramic views of the deep blue Indian Ocean. From the edge of the swimming pool and our room’s terrace, the sea stretches as far as the eye can see under the soft tropical light of this late afternoon.
Whales on the horizon!
We’ve only just arrived and there’s a unique spectacle: not far from the coast, whales are frolicking on the surface! We can clearly see a mother and her calf, with some other giants of the sea. They come every year from the Antarctic to give birth to their young and prepare them for life alone and the season is in full swing!
We find the tasteful décor, the understated luxury and the cosy subdued atmosphere at Blue Margouillat a delight. Stretched out on comfortable sun loungers, we enjoy the last rays of the sun at the edge of the heated swimming pool, much appreciated during the southern winter.
Blue Margouillat is also renowned for being home to one of the best gourmet restaurants on the island. We check that out soon, entrusting the chef to prepare our tasting menu. The tastes and flavours go together so well, the natural tropical produce is used to perfection, it’s like a party for our taste buds. The cellar is the same: the wine list is impressive, with a wine to match every dish!
After a good night’s sleep, the bright Reunion Island sun and the early morning birdsong awaits us at breakfast. Which is delicious and plentiful. We discover the incomparable flavour of the tangor, a local citrus fruit which is a cross between an orange and a tangerine and produces the sweetest juice. Every minute of our stay at the Blue Margouillat was truly enchanting.
